38 They shed innocent blood,
the blood of their sons and daughters,
whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan,
polluting the land with their blood.
39 Thus, they defiled themselves by their actions
and prostituted themselves by their conduct.[a]
40 [b]Then the anger of the Lord flared up against his people,
and he abhorred his own heritage.
